The Fayetteville Sustainability Summit is an all-day event at the Fayetteville Town Center, with some breakout sessions being held at the University of Arkansas Center for Continuing Education, just across the square.

Sponsor Exhibits and Product Showcase

Partnering with the Walton Business College's Applied Sustainability Center, the Product Showcase is intended to help inform consumers on how to make purchasing decisions that will reduce their impact on the environment. The central focus of the day-long event will be on defining life cycle assessment and how to relate that to products such as clothing, milk, footwear, bikes and scooters.

our dependence on foreign oil and grow the clean
energy economy.

Keynote: The Sustainable City of the Future
Dr. John W. Mogge, Jr.

Dr. Mogge will discuss Masdar City, designed to be the
first carbon-neutral city in the world and a blueprint for
next-generation global development.

Dan Skoff, with KNWA, will describe how residents can reduce their impact on the environment while increasing their quality
of life; everything from what they purchase
at the grocery store to how they brush
their teeth.

Jim Twiggs will talk about how McKee Foods has made their manufacturing processes more efficient and reduced their impact on the environment.

Also, Nick Brown will discuss the University of Arkansas’ operations and current programs and how the university was able to achieve 97 out of 100 on The Princeton Review’s Sustainability Scorecard.

Dr. Matlock has partnered with the Smithsonian Institute to use local wastewater treatment processes to create algae and extract the energy from it to create an alternative fuel.

Additionally, Stephen Luoni will discuss the Community Design Center’s study on light
rail in Northwest Arkansas and their
award-winning design for the Habitat for Humanity development in Fayetteville.

Wal-Mart has changed the global building landscape by implementing energy efficient technologies on a massive scale. Mr. Zimmerman will describe the innovative things they have been doing for years at Wal-Mart as well as some of the cutting edge initiatives, such as LED lights.

Dan Sanker will discuss the newly-formed Green Valley Network Initiative and his goal for Northwest Arkansas to become an economic cluster for the green economy.

Also, Jim Wimberly will discuss his role in developing Arkansas’ fertile opportunity for using biomass as a renewable energy.

Karen McSpadden will describe Winrock’s many initiatives around the world; from their efforts with local farmers to their social and environmental sustainability efforts on the international stage.
